Nichiha's technology includes exterior sidings cleaned with rainwater.
Nichiha leads the industry in developing new technologies/new products related to exterior sidings. For example, we present our unique solution to "stain," one of the most important challenges in the domain of exterior sidings. We have promoted technology development under an innovative concept of self-cleaning, which successfully resulted in commercial production of nano-hydrophilic MicroGuard (ultra hydrophilic stainproofing process based on nano-technology). Stain that develops on conventional sidings due to soot/smoke and exhaust gas is difficult to remove. However, our new technology allows the removal of such stain with a flush of water. In November 2003, we launched high-grade exterior sidings (Moen Nextage) incorporating this technology and equipped with a self-cleaning function. We will add this self-cleaning function in forthcoming products.

Nichiha's exterior sidings for housing demonstrate ultra hydrophilic performance due to surface reforming achieved with our unique nano-technology. It is hard for stain to develop on the sidings and stain can be removed easily with rainwater.
Conventional siding
Stain on an ordinary exterior siding is hard to remove.
MicroGuard
A flush of water on nano-hydrophilic MicroGuard exterior siding washes away even persistent stains.

Mechanism of "Forever Clean!"

Silica particles are evenly distributed on the MicroGuard coat (on the surface).
The hydroxyl of the particles adsorbs water molecules in the atmosphere to create a razor-thin water film on the surface.
Pollutant adheres on the water film.
The pollutant is washed away with rainwater. New water molecules are adsorbed on an open spot. A water film is created to get ready for upcoming stain.
